Shopify agency in Alappuzha
Alappuzha sells two very different things online: coir and handicraft made by people who have made it for generations, and experiences on the backwaters. One is a bulky-goods logistics problem, the other is date-based inventory. We build both, and they share almost nothing.
Brands we build and scale
Bulky goods and booked dates are opposite problems.
A coir rug is light and enormous. Couriers bill it on dimensional weight, so the flat national shipping rate that works for a t-shirt store will quietly lose money on every large mat you sell. The fix is rate bands by product size, a free-shipping threshold you have costed rather than guessed, and in some cases a separate rate card for the biggest items.
A houseboat night is the reverse: no weight, no shipping, but a hard limit of one sale per date per boat, a deposit, a cancellation policy and a season that swings demand by a factor of several. Shopify handles this well with the right structure, and badly if you try to model it as ordinary stock.
Both categories share one thing: the product is judged by hand or by being there, and the store has to do that job with photography instead. That is a brief and a shot list, not a plugin.
Built for Alleppey brands
Coir & floor coverings
Dimensional-weight rates, room sizing, care guidance and photography that shows texture.
Handicraft & home
Provenance and maker stories built into the product record rather than a paragraph at the bottom.
Backwater stays & experiences
Date inventory, deposits, cancellation windows and blackout dates that hold.
Export buyers
Multi-currency and freight options for the international demand Kerala coir already has.
Texture-first photography
A shot list for products people normally decide on by touching them.
Seasonal demand
A store and a campaign calendar built around monsoon and peak season, not a flat year.
Questions we get every week
Can Shopify handle houseboat or homestay bookings?
Yes, with a booking app and the right structure β date-based availability, blackout dates, deposits or full prepayment, and cancellation windows enforced rather than written in a policy nobody reads. What Shopify will not do on its own is stop you overselling a date if the setup treats a boat night like ordinary stock. That structure is the work; the storefront is the easy part.
Why does shipping cost so much on coir rugs?
Because couriers charge on dimensional weight for bulky goods β the space the parcel occupies, not what it weighs. A large mat is light and takes up a lot of a vehicle. Pricing it as though it were heavy is the single most common way a coir store loses money without noticing. We set rate bands by product size and cost the free-shipping threshold properly.
How do we show quality online for handmade products?
By making the things that justify the price into structured data β fibre, weave, dimensions, the time it took, who made it β and then a photography brief built for texture: raking light, close detail, and a shot that gives scale in a real room. A stock theme flattens a handmade rug into the same layout as a printed doormat.
Do you work with Kumarakom and Kuttanad businesses as well?
Yes. The backwater belt is one market for this work, and the booking and seasonality patterns are the same whether the boat leaves from Alappuzha or Kumarakom.
