Shopify agency for Kerala brands

Kerala sells to two audiences at once β€” the state itself, and several million Malayalis in the Gulf, the US, the UK and Australia who buy from home. Almost every Kerala D2C brand we have worked with was built for the first and losing the second. We build Shopify stores that serve both properly: spices, ayurveda, handloom, cashew, coir, snacks and gold.

Brands we build and scale

Why Thriftizer

The NRI customer is not a bonus segment. For most Kerala brands, it is the margin.

A packet of Wayanad pepper sold in Kochi and the same packet sold to a customer in Sharjah are different businesses. One is a small-value domestic order. The other is a higher-value order in a different currency, with customs paperwork, food-import rules at the destination, a shipping cost that can exceed the product, and a delivery promise you have to be able to keep. Stores that treat it as an afterthought lose the order at the shipping step, and never find out why.

Getting it right is mostly build decisions, not settings. Multi-currency presentment through Shopify Markets, shipping rates that reflect real courier cost by weight band rather than a flat guess, HS codes and FSSAI or AYUSH documentation attached correctly, and a returns policy that does not destroy the margin the moment one parcel comes back from Dubai.

Then there is the calendar. Kerala's year runs on Onam and Vishu, not on Diwali and Black Friday. Onam demand starts at Atham, ten days before Thiruvonam, and a store that starts its campaign on Thiruvonam has missed the season. We plan and build against that calendar because it is the one your customers actually buy on.

Where we work

Across Kerala

One team, the whole state. These are the clusters most of the work comes from.

πŸŒ†

Kochi & Ernakulam

Kerala's commerce and startup centre β€” Infopark, the spice trade and seafood export. Most cross-border builds start here.

πŸ›

Thiruvananthapuram

Technopark brands, ayurveda and Balaramapuram handloom, plus the export pull that Vizhinjam is starting to create.

πŸ’

Thrissur

India's gold jewellery heartland. Live rate pricing, making-charge structures and hallmark trust signals.

🌢

Kozhikode & Malabar

Spices, halwa and Malabar food brands with the largest Gulf diaspora demand in the state.

🌾

Palakkad & Kanjikode

Rice, jaggery, agri and food processing out of the KINFRA belt β€” packaged food D2C with FSSAI at its centre.

πŸ₯₯

Alappuzha & Kollam

Coir and cashew, both export-shaped businesses learning to sell a consumer pack direct.

FAQ

Questions we get every week

Do you have an office in Kerala?

No β€” our team is in Bengaluru, at Kudlu Gate on Hosur Road. We say that plainly because a Kerala address on a website usually means a sales desk rather than the people building your store. What matters is that the team that scopes your project builds it, is on the same time zone, and is a five-hour drive away when a meeting is genuinely worth having in person.

Can you set up my store to sell to Malayalis in the Gulf?

Yes, and for most Kerala brands it is the highest-return thing you can do. We configure Shopify Markets for AED, SAR, USD, GBP and AUD presentment, build shipping rates from real courier weight bands rather than a flat rate, attach HS codes and the FSSAI or AYUSH paperwork the destination expects, and set the returns policy so a single cross-border return does not wipe out the order's margin.

We sell spices and ayurveda products. What compliance affects the store?

For food and spices, FSSAI licensing and the labelling declarations that go with it β€” net weight, batch, best before, veg mark, nutritional panel β€” and the destination country's food import rules when you ship abroad, which are usually stricter than the domestic ones. For ayurveda, AYUSH licensing and a hard line on therapeutic claims: the claims that are legal on a domestic pack are frequently not legal in the UK, the EU or Australia. We build the product template so those fields are structured rather than typed into a description, which is what makes them auditable later.

When should an Onam campaign go live?

Build finished and tested by the end of July, campaign live at Atham. Onam demand does not start on Thiruvonam β€” that is when it peaks and when your courier network is already saturated. Working backwards from Atham is the only version of this timeline that holds, and it is why we book Onam work in June.

Do you build stores for Palakkad, Kollam, Alappuzha and the smaller towns?

Yes. The work does not change by district β€” a Palakkad rice or jaggery brand and a Kollam cashew exporter have the same core problem as a Kochi one, which is packaging an export or wholesale business as a consumer product and reaching buyers outside the state.

Can the store be in Malayalam?

Yes, through Shopify Markets and translation apps. Be realistic about maintenance β€” a translated catalogue is a permanent commitment, not a one-off. For most Kerala brands we recommend Malayalam on campaign and landing pages, where it clearly lifts response, and English on the product catalogue, then reviewing after a season.
