Shopify agency in Kochi
Kochi has been an export city for six hundred years, and the habits show. Most brands here are excellent at shipping a container and inexperienced at shipping one parcel to one person. That gap β trade business to consumer brand β is most of what we do for Kochi clients, alongside the Infopark startups who are building D2C from scratch.
Brands we build and scale
Selling a container and selling a 250g pack are not the same business.
An export business knows its product, its certifications and its margins per tonne. What it does not have is a consumer pack, a story on the label, a photograph anyone wants to look at, or a cost model where shipping is a meaningful share of order value. The first D2C season is usually where brands discover the last one β a small basket carrying nearly half its value in courier cost does not survive a discount on top.
The way through is unit economics before design. Work out the pack sizes that make sense once shipping is included, set free-shipping thresholds that push basket size rather than subsidise it, and build the bundles that get an order over the line. That is a merchandising decision made in a spreadsheet, and it constrains everything the store then looks like.
The other half of Kochi is the startup ecosystem β Kerala Startup Mission, Infopark, the Kalamassery complex. Those teams do not need convincing about D2C; they need a store that will not have to be rebuilt in eighteen months. That means a theme that stays fast as the catalogue grows, structured product data rather than descriptions with facts buried in them, and analytics wired properly on day one.
Built for Kochi brands
Spice & tea D2C
Consumer packs off an export catalogue, origin storytelling that justifies the price, and food-import documentation for cross-border orders.
Seafood & perishables
Cold-chain-aware delivery windows, cut-off logic and the delivery promises you can actually keep.
Infopark & KSUM startups
Stores built to still be fast at ten times the catalogue, with structured data and analytics wired from day one.
Gulf & NRI cross-border
Multi-currency, real weight-band shipping rates, HS codes and a returns policy that survives a Dubai return.
Ayurveda & wellness
AYUSH-compliant product templates and a hard line between what is legal to claim in India and abroad.
Unit economics first
Pack sizes, thresholds and bundles worked out before design, because shipping cost decides the catalogue.
Questions we get every week
We export in bulk. How different is a D2C store?
Different enough that it is a separate business plan rather than a new sales channel. You need consumer pack sizes that work once courier cost is included, labelling that satisfies retail rules rather than trade documentation, photography and a brand story that did not previously need to exist, and a customer-service function for individual orders. We scope all of that, and we start with the unit economics because they decide the catalogue.
Can you help us sell to Malayalis in the Gulf and the US?
Yes, and out of Kochi it is usually the strongest first move. Shopify Markets for AED, SAR, USD and GBP presentment, shipping rates built from real courier weight bands, HS codes and FSSAI or AYUSH paperwork attached correctly, and gifting flows for the common case where the buyer is abroad and the recipient is in Kerala.
Do you work with startups from Kerala Startup Mission or Infopark?
Yes. The brief there is usually speed and durability rather than a first launch β a store that is still fast at ten times the catalogue, with product data structured properly so it can feed a marketplace or an app later, and analytics correct from the first day rather than reconstructed a year in.
Our seafood and fresh products need delivery-date control. Can Shopify do that?
Yes, with the right setup. Delivery-date pickers with blackout dates, pin-code-level serviceability, order cut-off times tied to your dispatch schedule, and packaging surcharges by zone. What Shopify will not do on its own is protect you from a promise you should not have made, so we usually spend as long on the cut-off rules as on the storefront.
What does a Shopify store cost for a Kochi brand?
It depends on catalogue size and whether you are selling internationally, which adds genuine scope through Markets, multi-currency and cross-border shipping. We audit first, then quote fixed scope against a written brief. The audit costs nothing.
