Conversion optimisation measured honestly

Most CRO decks are a list of best practices dressed up as insight. We start with your session recordings, funnel data and actual customer objections, fix what is demonstrably broken, and only run tests where you have the traffic for the result to mean anything.

Why Thriftizer

Below about 1,000 conversions a month, most A/B tests tell you nothing.

This is the part CRO agencies do not lead with. Detecting a 10% lift with any confidence needs a few thousand conversions per variant. A store doing 300 orders a month running a two-week test is generating noise and calling it a result — and then building a roadmap on it.

If that is your traffic level, the honest answer is to stop testing and start fixing: the things your session recordings show people struggling with, the objections your support inbox answers ten times a week, the checkout steps where the funnel visibly collapses. Those changes do not need statistical proof because the problem is observable.

Once you have the volume, testing earns its place — and we run it properly, with pre-declared hypotheses and sample sizes calculated before launch rather than watching until the number looks good and stopping.

Where the money is

What actually moves conversion rate

Ordered roughly by how often each turns out to be the biggest single leak in the stores we audit.

📱

Mobile experience

Most Shopify traffic is mobile and most stores are designed on a desktop. Tap targets, form friction and above-fold clarity on a real phone.

🛒

Checkout & cart

Where intent is highest and abandonment is most expensive. Payment options, shipping cost transparency, and removing the surprises that kill a cart.

📄

Product page

The information a customer needs to stop hesitating — sizing, materials, delivery date, returns — surfaced before they have to look for it.

🚚

Shipping cost & timing

The single most common abandonment reason across every market we work in. Usually a merchandising and threshold problem, not a logistics one.

Trust & proof

Reviews, guarantees, and returns policy placed where doubt actually occurs rather than in a footer nobody reads.

🔍

Search & navigation

For catalogues past a few hundred SKUs, on-site search quality is often the largest untapped conversion lever.

How it works

How a CRO engagement runs

01

Research

Analytics, session recordings, funnel drop-off, support tickets and review text. We find where and why people leave before proposing anything.

02

Fix the obvious

Broken, confusing and slow things get fixed, not tested. You do not need an experiment to justify removing a bug.

03

Test what is genuinely uncertain

Where reasonable people would disagree and you have the volume, we test properly — pre-declared hypothesis and sample size.

04

Compound

Winners ship, losers are documented so nobody re-proposes them next quarter. Monthly review against actual revenue.

Pricing

How CRO is priced

Priced by scope, never by promised lift — anyone guaranteeing a conversion percentage before seeing your data is guessing. Send us your store for a figure.

Conversion auditAudit

One-off research, funnel analysis and a prioritised roadmap you can execute yourself or with us.

CRO sprintSprint

Audit plus implementation of the high-confidence fixes, with before-and-after measurement.

Ongoing programme

Continuous research, implementation and testing. Suited to stores with the traffic to support a real experiment cadence.

International clients are quoted in local currency. We will tell you if your traffic cannot support a testing programme — an audit and a fix sprint is often the better spend at that stage.

FAQ

Questions we get every week

What conversion rate should we be aiming for?

It depends far more on category and price point than on any industry average. Low-consideration repeat-purchase categories run several times higher than fine jewellery or furniture, and a 1.2% rate on a ₹40,000 average order is a very different business from 1.2% on ₹800. The useful benchmark is your own trend and your own segments — mobile versus desktop, new versus returning, paid versus organic — not a number from a blog post.

Do we have enough traffic for A/B testing?

If you are doing fewer than roughly 1,000 conversions a month, probably not for anything but large changes. Detecting a realistic 5–10% lift with confidence needs a few thousand conversions per variant; below that you get noise that looks like signal, and roadmaps built on false positives. We will tell you straight, and focus on research-led fixes instead — which is usually where the bigger wins are at that stage anyway.

Can you guarantee a conversion rate increase?

No, and be sceptical of anyone who does before seeing your data. What we commit to is honest measurement: you will know what changed, what it did, and how it reconciles against your actual Shopify revenue rather than a test tool's optimistic reporting. Some tests lose. Documenting those properly is part of the value — it stops the same idea being re-proposed every quarter.

What is the most common conversion problem you find?

Shipping cost and delivery timing revealed too late, and mobile experience. Those two account for a large share of the leaks in almost every store we audit, across every market. Both are usually fixable without a test, because the problem is observable in the funnel data rather than a matter of opinion.

Do you work on the checkout itself?

On Shopify Plus, yes — checkout extensibility allows real customisation of the checkout experience. On standard Shopify the checkout is largely locked, so the work is everything leading into it: cart drawer, shipping calculation transparency, payment method availability and the pre-checkout information that decides whether someone starts.

Is CRO better value than more ad spend?

Usually, once you have meaningful traffic — a conversion improvement compounds across every channel including the paid traffic you are already buying, while more spend only buys more of the same. But CRO needs traffic to work on. If you are early and thin, spend on acquisition first and come back to conversion when you have volume worth optimising.
