Wix to Shopify migration

Usually straightforward on the data and awkward on the export, because Wix does not make it easy to leave. The design does not carry across, so this is a rebuild with your catalogue moved β€” which is normally the point.

Brands we build and scale

Why Thriftizer

The redirect map is written before any data moves.

Every URL changes when you leave Wix. That is not a detail to handle at the end β€” it is the single thing that decides whether the organic traffic you have spent years earning arrives on the new store or disappears.

So the URL map comes first: every old path matched to its new equivalent, reviewed against Search Console and your top landing pages, and shipped as 301s with the launch rather than patched in afterwards. Titles and meta descriptions carry across, internal linking is rebuilt, and we watch Search Console closely for the weeks that follow.

Done that way, rankings dip briefly and recover. Done without a map, they do not come back on their own β€” and by the time it is obvious, the old store is gone and the evidence with it.

Why brands move

What sends brands off Wix

🧱

The catalogue outgrew the platform

Wix handles a small, stable catalogue well. Past a few hundred SKUs, or once variants get complex, you start working around the platform rather than with it.

🐌

Checkout conversion matters now

Once you are spending on acquisition, a percentage point of checkout conversion is real money. Shop Pay's returning-customer base is a genuine advantage Wix has no equivalent for.

πŸ”Œ

The app you need does not exist

Subscriptions, advanced loyalty, 3PL integration, real B2B. Shopify's ecosystem is far deeper for ecommerce specifically.

πŸ›’

Selling across markets

Multi-currency, per-market pricing and market-specific catalogues are native in Shopify Markets and constrained on Wix.

Plan for these

What actually breaks

Every migration page on the internet lists what moves across. These are the things that do not, and they are what decides whether the project goes well. We would rather you read them now than discover them at launch.

πŸ”—

The export itself

Wix's export tooling is deliberately limited. Some data has to be pulled through the API or reconstructed, and we will tell you up front what is genuinely retrievable and what is not.

🧰

The design

Wix layouts do not transfer. This is a rebuild β€” which is usually welcome, because the store is being outgrown rather than merely relocated.

πŸ—‚

URLs

Wix and Shopify structure product URLs differently, so every one changes and needs a 301. Wix sites often have shallow URL structures that map cleanly, which makes this easier than a Magento migration.

πŸ”

Wix-specific features

Bookings, events and membership areas have no direct Shopify equivalent. If those are core to your business, migrating the store while keeping Wix for them can be the right split.

How it works

How the migration runs

01

Scope and audit

We go through the Wix store properly β€” catalogue, customisation, integrations, and anything platform-specific that will need a Shopify equivalent. You get the list before you get a quote.

02

URL map and 301 plan

Written and reviewed before any data moves, against your actual traffic rather than a generic pattern.

03

Data migration

Products, variants, customers, orders and content, into a staging store you can check against the live one.

04

Build and rebuild

Theme, the Shopify equivalents of whatever the old platform did natively, and the integrations you actually use.

05

Launch

DNS, redirects live with it, and analytics and Search Console verified on the new property the same day.

06

Watch

Crawl and ranking monitoring for the weeks after, because that is when a missed redirect shows up and when it is still cheap to fix.

FAQ

Questions we get every week

How hard is it to get our data out of Wix?

Harder than it should be, and it is the first thing we check. Wix's native export covers less than most platforms, so some data comes through the API and some may need reconstructing. We audit exactly what is retrievable before quoting, so there are no surprises halfway through.

Will our site look the same?

No, and that is usually the reason to move. Wix designs do not transfer to Shopify, so this is a rebuild with your content and catalogue carried over. Most brands migrating from Wix are outgrowing the store rather than just relocating it, so a rebuild is what they actually want.

When should we move off Wix?

The signals worth acting on: catalogue past a few hundred SKUs, variant or bundle logic you are working around, paid acquisition at a scale where checkout conversion is material, or a need the Wix app ecosystem cannot meet. If none of those apply, staying is a legitimate answer and we will say so.

Will we lose our search rankings?

Not with a proper redirect plan. Wix URL structures are usually shallower than Magento or WooCommerce, which makes the mapping cleaner. We build the full map before migrating, 301 everything, carry across metadata and monitor Search Console afterwards.
